Shelter for Women and Chidren
Completed under Certificate of Practice of Architects Design Group
This project involved a feasibility and early design study for a purpose-built shelter for women and children recovering from domestic violence.
The study examined the relocation of an existing shelter from adapted townhouses to a dedicated, city-owned property - an opportunity to envision a space designed specifically for safety, stability, and dignity.
The emerging concept reimagined the shelter as a supportive home rather than an institutional facility. Private and secure bedrooms were paired with shared spaces for gathering, daily living, and children's play, creating an environment where privacy and community could coexist. Natural light, clear circulation, and access to outdoor space were central to the design, reinforcing a sense of calm and protection/safety.
