The Wahta
A 420 sq. ft. modular studio home created with Grand River Modular, blending sustainable design, precision construction, and Indigenous-led collaboration.
This 420 sq. ft. studio home was realized in collaboration with Grand River Modular, a female, and Indigenous-owned company specializing in offsite manufacturing. Designed as a compact and flexible residence, the Wahta demonstrates how modular construction can bring together high-quality design, environmental responsibility, and efficient delivery.
The collaboration with Grand River Modular was central to the projects success. Their expertise in precision offsite manufacturing, combined with the craftmanship of skilled trades, ensured a streamlined process with reduced waste, faster timelines, and exceptional build quality. More than a construction method, this partnership represents a shared commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and community resilience.
Nestled within a landscaped setting, the Wahta offers both comfort and practicality: a light-filled interior with modern finishes, efficient kitchen and living spaces, and a seamless connection to the outdoors. The result is a small but impactful home - one that reflects the strength of collaboration and the promise of sustainable, modular housing solutions.
